China opens CIMX in Beijing with 350 hosted buyers and a 9,000-meeting target

The China International MICE Exchange (CIMX) opens today in Beijing and runs to 5 November at the China National Convention Center Phase II, with 150 exhibitors from China and 18 other markets, 350 hosted buyers and 5,000 trade visitors expected. "As China's MICE market further grows and matures, its impact will increasingly be measured by the quality of experiences and the business value they deliver," said Nikolaos Swoch, director of CIMX.
The numbers, and the caveat
CIMX is selling meetings, not floor space. When the show was announced, the organiser projected more than 200 exhibitors, 350-plus qualified buyers, 5,000 trade visitors and more than 9,000 pre-scheduled, matched one-to-one meetings. On those targets, each hosted buyer would sit through roughly 26 meetings in three days.
The caveat sits in the first number. The line-up published in the week of the show lists 150 exhibitors, below the "over 200" projected when CIMX was announced 14 months earlier; the buyer, visitor and meeting figures are targets set before the doors opened. Treat the meeting count as a design goal, not a result.
What is confirmed: Beijing is the Official Host City Partner; Tianjin, Hainan and Shanghai Lin-gang are destination showcase partners; the conference runs 120 speakers across six content tracks.
Context: a 2025 memorandum
CIMX comes out of a strategic memorandum of understanding signed in 2025 between Messe Berlin China and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. The buyer profile covers corporate planners, MICE agencies, travel and incentive specialists, and association representatives.
Why this matters
For organisers, the interesting part is the arithmetic, not the venue. CIMX is an attempt to build a fair whose product is pre-scheduled meetings, with a buyer pool recruited and qualified in advance. That model only pays if the meetings are good — and if what was agreed in them survives the flight home.
This week
- If China is on your 2027 map, read the hosted-buyer criteria and the exhibitor list before recruitment for the next edition opens; the show is annual.
- If you run a fair, copy the arithmetic: decide how many pre-scheduled meetings each buyer should get, then design the floor around that number.
- Ask your China-facing partners which buyers they met, not how many stands they saw.
Your show's real product is the meetings — keep them working after it closes
CIMX's own targets make the point: 350 hosted buyers, more than 9,000 pre-scheduled meetings, three days to fit them in. The exhibitors who keep the business are the ones whose stand, demos and meeting slots stay reachable once the halls close. vcity runs events and webinars in an immersive 3D space, with booking and CRM, so the conversations you book at a show can carry on after the badge scanners are packed away.
