To create this work, it was necessary to imagine one of the oldest and most beautiful Norwegian sailing ships, the Sørlandet, participating in the Tall Ships Races and sailing the North Sea during a powerful manifestation of the forces of nature.
The brushstrokes are concentrated on a rough sea, with predominantly green tones almost reaching black, along with a clear foam that arises from the powerful advance of the ship.
The unfurled sails, swollen by the strong wind, give this work a special force, the same that characterizes my work, taken to its maximum expression both by the choice of color and by the energy of the lines.
Built in 1927, Sørlandet is homeported in Kristiansand. The name Sørlandet means "southern land," after the area of Norway where the ship was built. With a white steel hull measuring 56.70 meters and an overall length of 64.20 meters, the ship has a tonnage of 499. She has 27 sails and a sail area of 1,240 m².
In 1933, Sørlandet became the first Norwegian training ship to sail across the Atlantic. In 1981, the ship became the first to offer sailing training for women, and in 1956, Sørlandet participated in the first international Tall Ship regatta. The ship can accommodate 72 apprentices and 20 permanent crew members and has participated in numerous regattas over the years.
