🎯 Title: Development of Wood-Plastic Composite from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches and Post-Consumer Expanded Polystyrene
👨🏫 Speaker: Eng. Cindy Vanessa Gutiérrez
Chemist and Master in Materials Engineering, Industrial University of Santander (UIS). Researcher, lecturer, and PhD candidate in Engineering. Member of the Materials Research Group (GIMAT).
📌 Description
In this webinar, Eng. Cindy Vanessa Gutiérrez will present the findings of her research on the development of a sustainable composite material made from post-consumer expanded polystyrene (EPS) and oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB)—two high-impact waste materials with significant potential for valorization within the circular economy framework.
The session will cover the experimental process, including a constant fiber/matrix ratio design, as well as variations in pressure, molding temperature, and fiber size to evaluate their influence on the material's properties. An innovative alternative that combines sustainability, waste recovery, and technological development.
✅ Key Topics:
- Waste valorization: post-consumer EPS and oil palm empty fruit bunches.
- Development of sustainable composite materials.
- Experimental process: fiber/matrix ratio, pressure, temperature, and fiber size.
- Contributions to the circular economy and materials innovation.
🎯 Target Audience: Materials engineers, researchers, professionals in the plastics and agro-industrial sectors, environmental managers, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers interested in sustainability and technological innovation.
