This painting dates back to 2015, a year when I dedicated myself to preparing the exhibition "From the Bosom of the Tempest," held at the Casa Santo Domingo Museum Hotel in the city of Antigua Guatemala.
The central theme of the exhibition was the book of Job, from which I drew endless ideas for creating drawings and paintings, as the verses in this book are filled with pure poetry.
In Job 38, we find the verse containing the text "Who shut up the sea with gates when it poured out of its bosom?" This was part of God's speech to Job and his friends.
During that time, my children were still small and they inspired me to create this work. In it, the three of us walk together, with me in the center and a boy holding each of my hands, moving towards an entirely unknown future. We had passed through the gates that enclose the sea, and undoubtedly, the waters had poured out from its depths.
Motherhood plays a significant role in this work—the uncertain path we must navigate with those we bring into the world, fraught with challenges and setbacks, yet filled with joy, love, and hope, especially when that hope is rooted in God.
I chose to include this painting in the Navigators exhibition because, beyond its portrayal of the formidable and majestic sea challenging daring sailors on a sailboat, symbolically, it represents our own journey through life's winding paths.
