Enquanto vivi na Guatemala, bem como nos meus primeiros anos na Costa Rica, incorporei bastante a figura humana ao meu trabalho.
Talvez lembrando do meu tempo de estudo de Arte na Universidade Católica do Chile, onde costumávamos desenhar e pintar modelos ao vivo, essa nuance na linha de desenho me pareceu um elemento valioso para incorporar à minha pintura atual.
A obra em tinta da China "Naufrágio" transporta-me a uma época passada, um lugar desconhecido onde seres anónimos foram abandonados ao destino do acaso.
A tristeza e a inquietação nos rostos dessas crianças eram a minha prioridade, não porque estivessem necessariamente se aproximando de um destino fatal, mas porque, em grande parte, refletem o que vivemos ao longo das nossas vidas: uma espera constante por um futuro incerto que é muito difícil enfrentar sem uma âncora em terra firme que nos assegure a possibilidade de salvação.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
