Um dos navios mais impressionantes e distintos nas Tall Ships Races é o alemão “Alexander von Humboldt”. Este majestoso veleiro é completamente verde, desde a sua estrutura até à cor das suas velas, destacando-se da multidão pela sua presença imponente.
No meu trabalho, procurei capturar a beleza e a força deste navio, refletindo a emoção que senti ao vê-lo rodeado de admiradores. Usei pinceladas poderosas e uma paleta de cores vibrante para transmitir a sua essência. Embora as velas originais sejam verdes, optei por representá-las em branco para adicionar luminosidade à cena, destacando os contrastes nesta imagem de tons escuros.
A fundação Deutsche Stiftung Sail Training, estabelecida em Bremerhaven em 1986, concentra-se em educar jovens alemães sobre trabalho em equipe e habilidades marítimas através da vela. Adquiriram um antigo navio-farol chamado Reserve Sonderburg, remodelaram-no e renomearam-no Alexander von Humboldt em homenagem ao naturalista alemão. O navio, pintado de verde em homenagem à histórica companhia de navegação alemã Rickmers, tornou-se um ponto focal em eventos marítimos internacionais e regatas. Realiza duas campanhas anuais, navegando pelo Baltic Sea no verão e pelas Canary Islands no inverno, participando em eventos como Op Sail e a Tall Ships Race. A sua presença, especialmente em portos espanhóis como Cádiz e La Coruña, chama sempre a atenção devido à sua impressionante cor verde.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
