La EIMCM hace parte de la Facultad de Ingenierías Físicoquimicas de la Universidad Industrial de Santander UIS, ubicada en la ciudad de Bucaramanga al Nororiente de la República de Colombia en Sur América

Todo el personal académico de la Escuela de Ingeniería Metalúrgica y Ciencia de los Materiales está activo en el descubrimiento de nuevo conocimiento. Esto tiene un impacto directo en la enseñanza de cada programa, no sólo porque los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje son guiados por expertos en su campo, sino también porque ofrece experiencias  de investigación a través de los semilleros, los grupos o centros de investigación en los que participan profesores-investigadores de la UIS y de otras universidades nacionales y extranjeras. Asimismo, la Escuela ha estructurado un Programa de Apoyo Técnico a la Industria a través de la oficina de extensión, lo que permite estrechar cada vez más los vínculos academia–industria.

The Research Group on Development and Technology of New Materials (GIMAT) aims to contribute to the improvement of processes for obtaining, characterizing, and evaluating materials, as well as to the study of new materials that meet the current demands and needs of the country. This is achieved through the training of qualified professionals and researchers who generate and strengthen cooperative links between Colombian universities and companies for the development, production, and application of materials.
