My fascination with sailboats dates back a long time, but it began to gain strength in 2019 when I witnessed up close the Tall Ships Races in Fredrikstad, Norway.

Those ships were a wonderful sight on the Glåma River, some anchored and others coming into port. To make it even more magical, there was the town of Fredrikstad, with its riverside restaurants, its drawbridge, its people, and on that particular day, it was spring, and the clouds splashed the sky with a deep blue color.

This memory led me to my first painting of sailboats, and it was precisely this one, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, which I painted for my mother-in-law's house in Norway. Perhaps for this reason, I have a particular affection for this ship.

This imposing three-masted sailing ship with an elegant figure was built in 1914 in Bremerhaven, Germany, under the name "Grossherzog Friedrich August."

The naval training vessel was initially commissioned by the German Navy. However, after World War I, Norway acquired it as part of war reparations, renaming it after Georg Anton Krohg Lehmkuhl, a prominent former Norwegian prime minister.

In this painting, the thick lines that define my works stand out the most. You can see the sailboat in the port, the landscape corresponds to Fredrikstad, and the colors, half warm, half cold, create an atmosphere that invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the work and interact emotionally with each element.
