She was on the seashore, her feet submerged in the frigid water of Øyenkilen, a town south of Fredrikstad, Norway.

The classic Nordic girl, very white and blonde, stood there ecstatically observing the boats. It was a beautiful image, and I decided it should also be part of this exhibition.

I have always enjoyed drawing with Indian ink. Since learning to use pen and ink to capture live images as an art student at the Catholic University of Chile, it has been a technique I frequently resort to.

Drawing with ink offers ease, the colors are beautiful, and the medium is both docile and friendly.

The "observant" girl represents the capacity for wonder that we all possess, regardless of age. Often, we think nothing can surprise us anymore, that we have seen it all, and that sometimes reality surpasses fiction.

We think this until one day, the morning breeze caresses us, an aroma brings back distant and special memories, a friend tells us he or she love us, something makes us laugh out loud like we thought we couldn't anymore, or, simply, for a minute, we become children again and feel an innocent curiosity very similar to that of the observant girl.
