Le « Capitán Miranda » est un voilier de la marine nationale de la République orientale de l'Uruguay. À l'origine, il servait de navire hydrographique pour la recherche océanographique et la préparation de cartes marines, avant de devenir un navire-école en 1977.
En me promenant dans le magnifique port de Fredrikstad en Norvège et en admirant les voiliers participant aux Tall Ships Races, il était impossible de ne pas être captivé par ce navire, qui arbore sur ses voiles l'emblème solaire du célèbre et primé artiste plasticien Carlos Páez Vilaró.
Il se distinguait par son originalité et sa couleur. En me souvenant de ces belles caractéristiques, j'ai décidé de capturer les symboles, les dessins et les couleurs sur les voiles d'un autre voilier, un voilier qui évoque un sentiment de nostalgie et de désir d'un passé plutôt onirique — un navire imaginé naviguant sur la mer Baltique tandis que le coucher de soleil peint les vagues.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
