Lorsque je vivais au Guatemala, ainsi que pendant mes premières années au Costa Rica, j'ai intégré la figure humaine de manière assez importante dans mon travail.
Peut-être en souvenir de mes études d'art à l'Université catholique du Chili, où nous dessinions et peignions des modèles vivants, cette nuance dans le trait du dessin m'a semblé être un élément précieux à incorporer dans ma peinture actuelle.
L'œuvre à l'encre de Chine « Shipwreck » me transporte dans une époque révolue, un lieu inconnu où des êtres anonymes ont été abandonnés au sort du hasard.
La tristesse et le malaise sur les visages de ces enfants étaient ma priorité, non pas parce qu'ils s'approchaient nécessairement d'un destin fatal, mais parce que, dans une large mesure, ils reflètent ce que nous vivons tout au long de notre vie : une attente constante d'un avenir incertain, très difficile à affronter sans une ancre sur un terrain solide qui nous assure la possibilité du salut.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
