I incorporated into this exhibition a Caribbean landscape and a colorful sailboat on the seashore, waiting to set sail in search of adventure.
I did this with Costa Rica in mind, this wonderful country that has welcomed me. Its beautiful beaches, warm climate, and the inviting sea, the exotic fish I never imagined existed, the long walks on the rocks, and those trips on Andrés' panga, our fisherman friend...
How could I not? I can succumb to the beauty of the North Sea, be surprised by the Baltic, board the Christian Radich and dream of journeys I have never taken, see the sailors climb the masts and organize themselves like little soldiers from a heroic story.
But Costa Rica, my dear Costa Rica. How can I not honor it with my art?
In this work, I wanted to present the sailboat from the perspective of a fisheye camera, making the ship look imposing, powerful, and well-defined. The colors are vibrant, the thick and precise lines, the moving clouds, and the lush vegetation make this painting special and incredibly representative of what this dream country means to me.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015.
With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color.
María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color.
In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
