Mezcal es la primera pintura figurativa de una nueva serie dedicada a explorar la belleza equina desde una mirada emocional y simbólica. Hace más de 25 años comencé a dibujar y pintar caballos, investigando exhaustivamente su anatomía, y explorando su majestuosidad, su fuerza y su vulnerabilidad. Esta obra representa el inicio de un ciclo en mi arte contemporáneo, donde el potrillo se convierte en espejo de lo humano.
Cada una de mis obras tiene un significado; cada pincelada, una intención; cada trazo, el guion de un drama escrito con sangre y fuego. Mezcal no es la excepción.
El potrillo recién nacido, que se refugia detrás de su madre y nos observa con inocencia y ternura, deberá en algún momento atravesar el cerco que lo separa del dolor, del miedo y de la tragedia del crecimiento. Los alambres de púas que lo aíslan del mundo —y de nuestra mirada de espectadores ingenuos— son los mismos que a mí, como ser humano frágil, me han desgarrado la piel y el alma en cada etapa de mi vida.
Este es el simbolismo profundo que contiene la obra, aunque, como toda pintura emocional, Mezcal invita a que cada quien la interprete desde su propia historia: desde lo que la imagen susurra al oído… o grita a los ojos.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
