Mezcal ist das erste figurative Gemälde einer neuen Serie, die sich der Erforschung der equinen Schönheit aus einer emotionalen und symbolischen Perspektive widmet. Vor mehr als 25 Jahren begann ich, Pferde zu zeichnen und zu malen, erforschte ihre Anatomie gründlich und erkundete ihre Majestät, ihre Kraft und ihre Verletzlichkeit. Dieses Werk markiert den Beginn eines Zyklus in meiner zeitgenössischen Kunst, in dem das Fohlen zum Spiegel des Menschlichen wird.
Jedes meiner Werke hat eine Bedeutung; jeder Pinselstrich eine Absicht; jede Linie das Drehbuch eines Dramas, geschrieben mit Blut und Feuer. Mezcal ist keine Ausnahme.
Das neugeborene Fohlen, das sich hinter seiner Mutter versteckt und uns mit Unschuld und Zärtlichkeit beobachtet, muss irgendwann den Zaun durchqueren, der es von Schmerz, Angst und der Tragödie des Wachstums trennt. Die Stacheldrähte, die es von der Welt isolieren – und von unserem Blick als naive Zuschauer – sind dieselben, die mich als fragilen Menschen in jeder Lebensphase Haut und Seele zerrissen haben.
Das ist die tiefe Symbolik, die das Werk enthält, obwohl Mezcal, wie jedes emotionale Gemälde, dazu einlädt, dass jeder es aus seiner eigenen Geschichte heraus interpretiert: aus dem, was das Bild ins Ohr flüstert … oder den Augen entgegenschreit.

María Jimena Navarro is a Chilean painter, holding a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. She was a distinguished student of renowned Chilean artists such as Hernán Miranda, Gonzalo Cienfuegos, and Roser Bru. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad, including Guatemala, the United States, and Costa Rica, where she has lived with her family since 2015. With a distinctly Expressionist style, incorporating color to varying degrees, she has dedicated herself to capturing everyday life in a figurative manner, exploring themes that hold personal significance in both imagery and emotional weight. These themes include urban landscapes, the human figure, and the depiction of horses—portrayed as objects in constant motion, expressing their strength and imbued with vibrant color. María Jimena’s painting is an invitation to pause and feel, to remember, or to let ourselves be carried away. It is a tribute to life, reminding us that, ultimately, life is lived in color. In 2022, she ventured into professional writing for the first time, participating in the "César Vidal Christian Novel Award" by The Agustin Agency with her work "Colombina y la Sonrisa de Dios" (Colombina and the Smile of God).
